About this collection

From 1912-1933, the California Highway Commission, and later, the Division of Highways, would occasionally contract with the McCurry Foto Company of Sacramento to take scenic pictures of state roads and highways. This collection features those pictures, which chronicle the beauty of California rural highways. Pictures were taken all over the state, but the Coast Route, the Pacific Highway, the Redwood Highway, and U.S. 50 are the most extensively documented.
