The San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge construction photographs were taken between 1931 and 1938. The photos show all stages of the construction of the bridge, its components, on/off ramps, and connecting facilities. All facets including excavation, piers, caisson fenders, viaducts, approaches, tunnels, portals, anchorages, towers, derricks, spans, expansion bridges, upper and lower decks, cantilever, airplane beacon, toll plaza, underpasses, etc., are depicted. Also included are photographs of construction workers, opening ceremonies, etc. The photographs were taken by the Division of Highways Photography Unit and contractors hired to document the bridge construction.
